On December 10th 2014, Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli presented an all white Haute Couture collection at 945 Madison Avenue, New York City. There was a dusting of snow on the streets, and last night Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli dusted the former Whitney Museum of American Art with their grand vision, presenting a couture collection that is exclusive to New York. The celebration, Sala Bianca 945, was in honor of the house’s newly opened flagship store on Fifth Avenue. Braving the weather to catch a glimpse of the designs were Katie Holmes, Olivia Munn, Emma Roberts, and Sofia Coppola all dressed in the house’s fanciful frocks. 
Naming the event “Sala Bianca 945”, creates a time capsule that looks both backwards and forward. White as a non color or as the sum of all colors is, following Robert Ryman’s quote, a way to see things better, enhancing the visibility of craft and making Valentino’s exquisite constructions and textures readable.
